Bill Kinnune - Football Scholarship Endowment

Bill Kinnune

Bill Kinnune played for Husky football from 1957-1961, winning back-to-back Rose Bowls in 1960 and 1961. The 1960 team won the National Championship, finishing the year ranked #1 in the nation by the Helms Foundation. In the years since his playing days, Kinnune has had a very successful career in business.

Kinnune's legacy continues, as he and his wife, Carole, established the Bill and Carole Kinnune Football Scholarship Endowment as part of the Students First Campaign. Their scholarship will be awarded to Husky football student-athletes, with a preference to those enrolled in the Business School.

"Husky football means so much to me. At the same time, I have been involved with the Business School for many years and am proud of the success of the School. I want to help student-athletes have the same opportunities I had. Football and a degree in business have given me so much."

Bill's scholarship endowment gift is one of the largest ever made to the UW athletic department by a former student-athlete.

Gary Wipfler - Track & Field Scholarship Endowment

Gary Wipfler

As a former Husky track and field and Washington alumni, Gary Wipfler realized that being measured for what he has done off the track - in family, work, church and other social obligations, will be far more impactful than what he did on the track.

"For me, track was as important as business school in determining my foundation and principles later in business. Success factors like teamwork, drive, ethics, motivation, are interchangeable on and off the track."

Now, Gary and his wife Barb have established the Wipfler Family Scholarship Endowment to place highly motivated student athletes on a similar success track. "There are deserving and motivated student athletes that want to compete at the highest levels, but need a little help financially completing an education at the highest level as well."

They understand that these are difficult economic times for many."Perhaps making opportunities for student athletes becomes even more important. Let's make sure some great kids can realize their potential."
